Advice for your Brighter Super account.
If the merger letters still say LGIAsuper, Energy Super or Suncorp Super and you filed them unread, you’re not alone. Those funds became Brighter Super — and if your account stayed open through the mergers, it moved across with them. Bring your latest statement to a free half hour and we’ll work from what’s actually there.
Which Brighter Super account do I hold?
If you joined through LGIAsuper, Energy Super or Suncorp Super, that history still matters. We start from the name on your latest statement.
- Former LGIAsuper
- LGIAsuper merged with Energy Super on 1 July 2021. The account now sits under Brighter Super. We’ll use the current product name on your statement, not the old letterhead.
- Former Energy Super
- Energy Super completed its merger with LGIAsuper on 1 July 2021. An old brochure isn’t the document to use. Confirm the current Brighter Super account name first.
- Former Suncorp Super
- Brighter Super acquired Suncorp’s super business in March 2022, and member accounts moved across on 1 June 2023. Check the successor product shown on your latest statement.
- Employer-specific or legacy arrangement
- Some accounts still carry an employer-specific or older feature. Read the current statement and any scheme material before that feature is described.
- Current Brighter Super account
- Start with the product name on your latest statement, plus its current PDS and guides.
What happened to LGIAsuper, Energy Super and Suncorp Super?
The letters you kept from 2021 to 2023 are talking about the same fund you hold today.
LGIAsuper and Energy Super completed their merger on 1 July 2021. The Brighter Super name launched in July 2022.

See current PDSs and guides on the official Brighter Super website.
What can I ask about my Brighter Super account?
You might want to tidy what’s already there, or you might want a comparison. Either way we start from the account you hold now.
- Your current account
- Bring the investment, fee, contribution, beneficiary and insurance questions you want to talk about. We’ll tell you what we can take on.
- Legacy features
- Identify any employer-specific or older feature before you consider an account change. We’ll say whether we can advise on that arrangement.
- Retirement choices
- Consider timing, income needs and whether a pension account is relevant.
- The wider picture
- Other super or financial commitments only belong in the conversation if they change this decision.
- Comparing options
- Keeping the account, changing a setting or looking at another option are all on the table. We don’t arrive with a preferred result.
If retirement timing or income is the main thing on your mind, see our retirement planning guide.
What members ask us
Is LGIAsuper now Brighter Super?
Yes. LGIAsuper merged with Energy Super on 1 July 2021, and the fund took the Brighter Super name in July 2022. Your latest statement should show the Brighter Super account name that applies now.
What happened to Suncorp Super?
Suncorp Super members moved across under a successor fund transfer that completed in June 2023. Brighter Super says the acquisition of Suncorp’s super business happened in 2022. If you joined through Suncorp, your latest statement shows the current product name.
Do I need to work in local government or energy to be a member?
No. Brighter Super describes itself as an open fund welcoming members from government, private sectors and the wider community. You don’t need a local-government or energy job to join or stay.
Should I stay with Brighter Super?
Before you close or transfer the account, list any insurance, employer-specific feature or older arrangement that could be affected. We can advise on that comparison. Confirm the current settings with Brighter Super before you act.
What does a first conversation cost?
Nothing. It’s a free half hour. Tell us what you’d like to discuss and we’ll explain if and how we can help, including any fees, before you decide to go ahead.
We’re not owned by a bank, super fund or insurer.
Guideway is separate from Brighter Super and its predecessor brands. We use those names so you can find advice for the account you hold.
Your current product first
We work from the latest statement and the current documents that match it.
We’ll say if we can take it
After the first chat, you’ll know whether the work is something we do and what it would cost.
The outcome stays yours
That might mean keeping the account, changing a setting, or looking at another option.
What happens next
