Advice for your former Commonwealth Bank Group Super account.

If your paperwork still says Group Super or Accumulate Plus, that fund no longer exists on its own. It merged into Australian Retirement Trust in two stages, finishing on 26 October 2024. Your account went with it, and the defined benefits kept their terms.

Which Group Super account did I hold?

The name on your last Group Super statement decides which ART account you hold today, and when it moved.

Accumulate Plus
The accumulation account, where a balance rose and fell with markets. It transferred in stage one on 3 November 2023.
Retirement Access
The pension account paying you an income. It also transferred in stage one, on 3 November 2023.
Defined Benefit
Worked out by a formula rather than a balance. Everything except the lifetime pensions moved in stage one; the lifetime pensions followed on 26 October 2024.Two different dates

What happened to Commonwealth Bank Group Super?

The merger ran in two stages more than eleven months apart, which is why members remember different dates.

The trustee announced in February 2023 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue a merger with Australian Retirement Trust. The transfer went ahead as a successor fund transfer, which means members moved across without applying and without being asked to choose.

Stage one completed on 3 November 2023. Retirement Access, Accumulate Plus and defined benefit entitlements other than lifetime pensions moved to ART on that date.

Stage two completed on 26 October 2024, when the defined benefit lifetime pension entitlements transferred. A small, limited group of Division B lifetime pension members with a qualifying UK employment history were instead offered a transfer to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (UK) Staff Benefits Scheme on that date.

Group Super held about $12.3 billion for roughly 67,000 members at the time of the merger. Commonwealth Bank continues to fund the defined benefits, and the defined benefit terms carried across to ART rather than being rewritten.

What members ask us

Is Commonwealth Bank Group Super still a fund?

No. It merged into Australian Retirement Trust and no longer operates as a separate fund. Stage one completed on 3 November 2023 and stage two on 26 October 2024. Your account is now an ART account, and ART is who you contact about your balance, your login and your statements.

What happened to my Accumulate Plus account?

Accumulate Plus transferred to Australian Retirement Trust on 3 November 2023 in stage one of the merger. It moved by successor fund transfer, so you didn’t need to apply or accept anything. Your balance went across with the account. Check your current ART statement for the product name it sits under now.

Did the defined benefits change when Group Super merged?

The defined benefit arrangements continued to apply after the transfer to Australian Retirement Trust, and Commonwealth Bank continues to fund them. Defined benefit entitlements other than lifetime pensions moved on 3 November 2023, and lifetime pensions followed on 26 October 2024. Your own benefit still runs on the formula and rules recorded for your division, so read those before making any decision that depends on them.

I had a Group Super lifetime pension. When did it move?

Lifetime pensions transferred in stage two, on 26 October 2024, nearly a year after the rest of the fund. A small and limited number of Division B lifetime pension members were given the option to move their pension entitlements to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (UK) Staff Benefits Scheme instead. If you’re unsure which applied to you, the transfer notices you were sent will say.

Who do I contact about my old Group Super account?

Australian Retirement Trust. Group Super’s own member services closed with the fund, so ART holds your balance, your transactions and your statements. For anything about the defined benefit terms specifically, ask ART to point you at the documents that apply to your division.
