Advice for your Maritime Super plan in Hostplus.
If the 2023 merger letters went in a drawer, you’re in good company. Maritime Super transferred to Hostplus on 1 September 2023. Members and assets moved across — including the Maritime defined benefit sub-funds and protected-benefit arrangements — and the plan name on your statement is still a Maritime one. The first chat is free, and you’ll know any fees before you decide anything.
What happened to Maritime Super?
Your account now sits inside Hostplus. The plan name didn’t disappear.
On 1 September 2023, member balances moved from Maritime Super into Hostplus. That included a defined benefit arrangement. The Maritime plans now sit inside the Hostplus fund.
That’s why older documents still say Maritime Super, while the current guides are published by Hostplus. You hold a Maritime plan in Hostplus. Use the current Hostplus guides for the plan named on your statement — but keep your older Maritime Super paperwork, because letters about protected or legacy benefits can be evidence of rights your current documents don’t spell out.
Which Maritime plan do I have?
Hostplus publishes a separate document set for each plan. The name on your statement is the one that counts.
Hostplus currently publishes separate documents for Maritime Accumulation Advantage, Maritime Contributory Accumulation, Maritime Employer Accumulation and Maritime Stevedores Accumulation, as well as a Maritime Legacy Guide.
Similar names don’t mean the same rules apply. Start with your latest statement and the current Hostplus documents for that exact plan.
See the current Maritime plan documents on the official Hostplus website.
What can I ask about my Maritime plan?
You don’t need to know every rule before we talk. A recent statement, and any letter about a legacy or protected benefit, is enough to start.
- Your current plan
- We’ll work from the Maritime plan name on the Hostplus statement, and the current documents that sit with it.
- Account settings
- Investments, fees, contributions, beneficiaries and insurance. We’ll say in the first chat what we can look at.
- Legacy features
- Some plans kept a documented legacy or protected feature after the transfer — these are generally worth identifying before any change to the account. We’ll say whether we can advise on that arrangement.
- Retirement choices
- Timing, the income you need, and how this account sits with other income.
- The wider picture
- Other super or debts only come in if they change this decision.
- Comparing options
- You might keep the plan, change a setting, or look at something else. We don’t arrive with a preferred result.
If retirement timing or income is the bigger question, our retirement planning guide walks through the stages. If the statement names a mainstream Hostplus product rather than a Maritime plan, use the Hostplus account page.
What members ask us
Is Maritime Super still a separate super fund?
No. Maritime Super is no longer a standalone fund. The transfer into Hostplus finished on 1 September 2023, and Maritime plan names continue there. Use the exact name on your current statement when you’re looking things up.
Which Maritime plan do I have?
Hostplus publishes four Maritime accumulation plans: Accumulation Advantage, Contributory Accumulation, Employer Accumulation and Stevedores Accumulation, plus a Maritime Legacy Guide. Some members also hold Maritime defined benefit arrangements (including the Permanent, Seafarers, SVITZER and Trident sub-funds). Your statement is the best starting point, and Hostplus can confirm the plan it administers for you.
Do all Maritime plans work the same way?
No. Each of those four accumulation plans has its own Hostplus documents, and there’s a separate Maritime Legacy Guide. A name that sounds close doesn’t share the same rules.
Should I move from my Maritime plan to another account?
That's a decision worth making with full information. Some Maritime arrangements kept plan-specific or protected features after the 2023 transfer — including defined benefit sub-funds and protected minimum benefits — and those features generally don't come back once an account is closed. We can walk through what your plan carries and the trade-offs in a free half hour.
What does a first conversation cost?
Nothing. It’s a free half hour. Tell us what you’d like to discuss and we’ll explain if and how we can help, including any fees, before you decide to go ahead.
We’re not owned by a bank, super fund or insurer.
Guideway is separate from Hostplus and the former Maritime Super. Those names are here so you can find advice for the plan you actually hold.
Your plan first
We start with the Maritime plan name on the Hostplus statement, not a generic Hostplus product.
We’ll say if we can take it
After the first chat, you’ll know whether the work is something we do.
The outcome stays yours
That might mean keeping the plan, changing a setting, or looking at another option.
What happens next
Three steps. You can stop after the first one.
- 1. Book a free half hour
- Pick a time that suits. You don’t need every document first.
- 2. We listen
- We’ll tell you honestly if and how we can help.
- 3. You decide
- There’s no obligation. Stop after the first chat if you want.
